Puddlegum to launch Chasing Lions blog label

Puddlegum will undergo major changes during the month of July. First, we have decided to change the name of Puddlegum to Chasing Lions. Though we first began to use the Puddlegum name eleven years ago, we realize that if we want to expand and grow then we need to get away from ‘gum, considering the [...]

ShowHype: 500,000 clicks in April

There’s no question that blogs have changed the internet landscape. Technorati claims there are over 112 million blogs, growing at an astonishing rate of 175,000 new blogs every day, covering every topic imaginable. RSS feed readers are helpful in keeping up on your favorite blogs, but sometimes it’s nice to have a filter, such as [...]

Personalities in the studio

I have been spending more time behind my digital board, moving faders and placing microphones. Ironically, the years working as a therapist has proven to be very beneficial while tracking bands. Since I’m dealing with egos that need to be massaged and ideas to be explored, my approach can set a tone for the session [...]

The 11 Best Albums of 2008 (so far)

This will be my last post for awhile. I'm on the verge of having my second kid, so I'm planning to take a brief hiatus but shall return for the new Beck...with a sleigh of goodies. It's mid-terms and let's see how the year is unfolding so far...these are my faves...what are yours? The 11 Best Albums of 2008 (so far): The Hold Steady - Stay PositiveThe Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely (

The 11 Best Anniversary Songs:

I don't like talking about the bands I list on the site. There are 5000 music blogs in this world. Every single one of them talks about the music. If I'm just like them...then what's the point of reading this blog? But the release of the The Anniversary's B-side album is a reason to break the mold. For those who don't know them, The Anniversary was one of the bands that helped defined the

The 11 Best Reggie and the Full Effect Songs

First the Earth cooled. Then, rock stars came. But they got too big and fat and they all died and rock turned into emo. Then the Get-up Kids came. And they defined punk emo. But they, also, got too fat...although, instead of dying...they broke up into a hundred different bands: The New Amsterdams (folk emo), The Blackpool Lights (rock emo), The Terrible Twos (kids emo), and White Whale (

The 11 Best Sigur Ros Songs

The First Rule of Fight Club: Don't talk about Fight Club. It's no long news that the new GNR leaked yesterday. 9 fully mastered tracks are now every where on the internet. The world has changed in the 15 years that Axl has been working on the album (even though there's still a Bush in the White House). The computers in our cell phones are more powerful than the computers that used to sit

The 11 Best Coldplay Songs

Today gay marriage became legal in California. The state didn't fall off into the ocean. A giant sinkhole didn't open up and suck everyone in. Instead, lots of people had a very good day. Here's what I don't understand, all these anti-gay marriage haters say that gay marriage destroys marriage. But how is getting married...destroying marriage? Doesn't DIVORCE destroy marriage? Adultery?

Fred Wilson & Bob Leftsetz on AC/DC & WalMart

Just caught this great quote by Fred Wilson discussing a Bob Leftsetz post about the deal AC/DC is making with Wal Mart. Here is a quote from Fred: My son Josh loves AC/DC but if it’s not on iTunes, it’s not going to get on his iPod. Clearly AC/DC and/or their manager is in the category of [...]

Making Money as a Street Performer

From 1991 to 1996, I lived in Memphis. During that time, almost every time I was on Beale St, there were kids down there doing flips and other stunts for money. It looked really unorganized. Maybe 5-6 kids, each 8-10...

Something That I Found

Well, if you’ve read much of this blog you know that I push the promotion end of the business. You also have probably found that I am not a huge fan of the record companies, because the need for a record company is diminishing by the day. So, I found a link to a music promotion [...]

Three Reasons I Love Craigslist

Ok, so here it goes. 3 reasons that I love Craigslist(.com)

1. A Free Hammond M3 with Leslie 120 speaker
2. I found my job there - seriously, no lie. I work in Philly now.

3. I could've been guaranteed a job, albeit a shitty job, but nonetheless a job in radio if I hadn't of stopped showing up the last unpaid internship I found on Craigslist.

Just to let you know, Craig

On the road to a brighter day

Ho ho ho, it's that time of the year again, that time that we are given the opportunity to go out and see our favorite artist. During the summer, the Tweeter center on the waterfront offers a great selection of shows - from Allman Bros. to Beyonce. Although I am not attending any, I heard DMB was off the rocker. I'd imagine so, being as they had one of Jamaica's very first reggae bands opening - Toots and The Maytals.

As far as with everything besides music, things are definately l…

Despite getting back together with STP, Scott Weiland is already looking forward to his second solo album. While on the Howard Stern show, Weiland announced that he was working on the album with legendary producer Steve Albini (he’s worked with the Pixies, Page & Plant, PJ Harvey and Nirvana). Also, Weiland revealed that No Doubt’s Adrian [...]

FYI: Stone Temple Pilots Discography

Singles: “Plush”, “Creep”, “Sex Type Thing” and “Wicked Garden” Must have tracks: “Crackerman”, “Piece of Pie”. “Creep” Purple was released on June 7, 1994. Nine Inch Nails Free New Track

Trent Reznor and company just released a new track entitled “Discipline”, which is available for FREE at nin.com. Image details: KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas served by picapp.com It’s a pretty cool song, but should anyone really complain? I mean Trent is really sticking to this giving away music thing, which is awesome. Besides enjoying the track as is, [...]

Cake - Never There

“Never There” was the first single off of Cake’s third album Prolonging the Magic in 1998. It spent 3 weeks at the top spot on the Modern Rock Tracks, making it a pretty big single. What I like about “Never There”, and I guess most Cake songs, is that the music is just a tad upbeat, while the [...]

Careers

If I hear one more "artist" complain that he can't make any money selling recorded music I'm going to explode. You shouldn't be in the business of selling recorded music, you should be in the business of establishing a CAREER!Oh, then there's the professional songwriter, bitching too.  Maybe he should go into advertising, shit, that's where [...]

Cheap Trick Does Sgt. Pepper At The Bowl

We went to see "The T.A.M.I. Show" at the cemetery.Actually, I kind of dig the cemetery. There was one at the end of our street growing up. It was a cool place to ride my bike. Not that I'd want to get caught there overnight. And I'd actually been to the [...]

So, we were driving slow down the avenue, in Jeff's neighborhood, listening to XM 151, Laugh USA. Normally, I'd be tuned in to XM 150, XM Comedy, the edgier, uncensored station, but they were in commercial so I nudged the dial up one station to be entertained by a safer comic. Who turned [...]

The 30 Most Adorable Album Covers

Radiohead on Boredom, Transience and Erotic Landscapes

The title Hail To The Thief was pretty much stamped on the top of what was going on, just an anger thing. There was a lot of anger in that record—a lot. There's very little anger in In Rainbows. It's in no way political, or, at least, doesn't feel that way to me. It very much explores the ideas of transience. It starts in one place and ends...

To Sing Like Shakira, Press '1' Now

Vibrato -- the pulsating change of pitch in a singer’s voice -- is an important aspect of a singer’s expression, used extensively by both classical opera singers and pop stars like Shakira. Usually, the quality of a vibrato can only be judged subjectively by voice experts.
