Viva Voce: Octavio video

Viva Voce’s first video from Rose City has hit Youtube. The song is for the brooding Octavio, and the video is set in an old worn mansion in the 1920s. Kevin Robinson types away on an Underwood typewriter while Anita Robinson writes a note and places it in a hole in the bedroom wall. The [...]

Fanfarlo: Reservoir

Every year brings a few surprisingly strong debuts by new artists. Last week we purchased Fanfarlo’s Reservoir for $1 (the offer ends on July 4), not expecting what we heard. The 11 Best Albums of 2009 (so far):

I'm off on vacation for a couple of weeks...but will return. Until then...here's a snapshot of the first half of the year. These are my favorites. I can't belive I picked Morrissey at the top. But it's the album that's had the most play in my 2009 library. So...it's hard to argue with that. The 11 Best Albums of 2009 (so far):1. Morrissey - Years of Refusal (Black Cloud)2. Samantha Crain -

The 11 Best Wilco B-Sides & Bonus Tracks

It's the 4th of July and all of us Americans go out and celebrate in the one thing that Americans do best...we consume. We eat until we can't move, we drink until we can't stand up, and we end the day staring up at the sky and watch things get blown up good. Only Americans celebrate freedom by indulging in every single freedom at the exact same time. I avoided the BBQs this year...but showed my

The 11 Best Moby Songs

Moby started to lose me over his past two albums. But Amazon listed his new album, Wait for Me...for only $3.99. At that price, I'd buy just about any album. And half way through my first listen...I can already tell this album is worth a lot more than the price tag. If you've been a Moby fan since Play...than you need to add this album to your library. Is the best album of the year? No. Is it the

The 11 Best Songs By Dinosaur Jr.

Comeback's are a bitch. It barely happens. And it's rarely successful. Currently Michael Jackson is in the middle of a comeback unlike anything the world has ever seen. He has 9 of the top 10 albums on itunes and 50 of the top 100 songs. He has the top 16 albums on Amazon...and is selling out at almost every store in town. But he had to die to accomplish that.Dinosaur Jr took a more subdued

What You Can Learn From The Pearl Jam Live Experience

what-you-can-learn-from-the-pearl-jam-live-experience There’s nothing like the moment when the lights go out, the audience roars, the shadowy figures appear on stage, and then there’s the opening note. Ah, there’s nothing like that euphoric concert. Most bands have it, others don’t. Pearl Jam defiantly has it. So, what makes them such a great band, to the point where people [...]

Three Reasons I Love Craigslist

Ok, so here it goes. 3 reasons that I love Craigslist(.com)

1. A Free Hammond M3 with Leslie 120 speaker
2. I found my job there - seriously, no lie. I work in Philly now.

3. I could've been guaranteed a job, albeit a shitty job, but nonetheless a job in radio if I hadn't of stopped showing up the last unpaid internship I found on Craigslist.

Just to let you know, Craig

On the road to a brighter day

Ho ho ho, it's that time of the year again, that time that we are given the opportunity to go out and see our favorite artist. During the summer, the Tweeter center on the waterfront offers a great selection of shows - from Allman Bros. to Beyonce. Although I am not attending any, I heard DMB was off the rocker. I'd imagine so, being as they had one of Jamaica's very first reggae bands opening - Toots and The Maytals.

As far as with everything besides music, things are definately l

The Tunecore Deal

So what we’ve got here is a Universal alliance that allows the music conglomerate a chance to pick up nascent acts, merging them into their system with all its advantages.  Huh? Google OS

I’m not excited about this.  I’m quite happy with OS X.  I’m not one of the minions tearing their hair out, bitching about Vista.  But as a business story, this is fascinating. You see Microsoft is married to an old business model.  They make their money selling Windows and Office.  What if these are suddenly free? This [...]

Jackson Fans Offering Memorial Tickets for Sex on Craigslist

Extreme grief has the ability to bring out the stranger, at times unseemly, aspects of humankind. One 35-year-old San Gabriel Valley resident is willing to give his extra ticket...
